We all know how things get started concerning information, and that certainly applies to health and fitness facts and myths. As you probably know myths begin when one person carries something they heard even if only partially heard on to a third person who then carries it to someone else. Maybe they even didn’t hear it right. But they innocently tell something they know, and another myth is born, again.

It’s a fact that we are more inclined to believe what we are hearing if it is appearing to come from a position of authority or someone who appears to know what they are talking about. The lies you might hear can cause you physical pain if you don’t have all of the details or the tip you get is wrong altogether. We’ll explore more about health and fitness myths and facts, please continue reading.

PAUSE FOR RANT – For those that think that HIIT cardio isn’t the best form of cardio and that its effectiveness is merely a myth you are dead wrong. Studies prove that HIIT cardio and HIIT workouts are incredibly effective at both fat burning (and consequently weight loss) and cardiovascular improvements… I just had to air that out because although HIIT cardio is much more mainstream nowadays than it was in the past it still seems to get overlooked quite often and the people that attempt to disprove its effectiveness can never seem to point to any significant scientific findings that disprove its effectiveness. So when in doubt do HIIT! – END OF RANT

    Anyway back to the article…

One interesting thing often heard about swimming is that it is a great way to lose weight. This is in no way true. Losing weight is not a benefit you will gain from swimming although there are many other benefits you will gain. The reason for this is because as you are swimming the water is doing the work to support your body weight (called buoyancy) which basically means you aren’t getting the workout you think you are or that you might if you were running or jogging long distances. If you believe the myth that you can’t get a good workout if you aren’t feeling the burn you’re mistaken. Peaks often happen days later when you finally feel the effects of your workout. It can be dangerous after years of inactivity to hit the gym hard right away. There is no reason to rush. In fact, see a doctor and get a quick check-up, then just go slow and you will have a better experience.

Now if you really are committed to achieving your health and fitness goals then you might want to consider a weight loss program to help get you there. Weight loss programs are a great way to be held accountable and insures you always get a but kicking workout every time you step into the gym.
