    >Are you trying to deal with TMJ problems? Literally, this condition is such a pain in the neck. Having to deal with this is very stressful. And you know what, the stress can only worsen the pain – hassle right? Don’t be too down though because there are many ways to relieve the pain and make this problem go away.

First, let’s discuss these TMJ problems. Commonly, they are pains experience in the jaw, neck, shoulders and the ear. Opening or closing the mouth will also be quite difficult for patients and they have to worry about the jaw popping or locking into place. The jaw or cheeks of the patient may also be inflamed.

The cause of these conditions is the inflammation of the temporomandibular joint. It is the joint that connects our skulls to our jaws. The common culprits of the inflammation are malocclusion and bruxism. Malocclussion is the misalignment of one’s upper and lower teeth while bruxism is the grinding or clenching of one’s teeth unconsciously during sleep.

Several other things may cause this condition as well. One of the things that can cause the syndrome is overusing the jaw by chewing excessively. Opening the mouth excessively or being injured may also be a cause. It may sound odd, but excessive nailbiting can also cause this.

In order to relieve yourself of these TMJ problems, you can do jaw exercises. In order to do jaw exercises, draw a vertical line on a mirror and try opening your mouth. It’s supposed to open up and down right? For the sufferers of this condition, it opens side to side instead. Exercising the jaw everyday may be enough to cure the swelling and eventually the condition.

Some patients use a biofeedback headband. This will help in lessening teeth grinding or clenching during sleep. If the condition has become severe, it may be relieved by wearing correctional braces. If those things don’t do, it might be time for surgery.
